the great questions

Someone had to pay

Jesus Bore our Punishment

Because God is holy and just, He had to punish sin. A price had to be paid.

God who is holy and just is also merciful. Though we deserved death for violating God's law, instead, He chose to extend His wrath to His own son so that we could be made right with Him!

A Willing Sacrifice

Jesus willingly laid down his life so we could truly live. He had the power to stop it, but instead, He chose obedience to God's will.

A Surprising Twist

On the third day, God raised Jesus from the dead. Even the closest of his disciples were surprised, failing to fully understand all that Jesus had told them leading up to his death.

Some Resurrection Proofs:

- There is an empty tomb. Even atheist scholars agree on this account.

- The post-resurrected Jesus was seen by over 500 eyewitnesses (1 Corinthians 15:3-8)

- The apostles were willing to be tortued and killed rather than recant their belief in the resurrected Christ.

- James, Jesus' half-brother was unconvinced of Jesus' claims - until his resurrection. James went on to head the church in Jerusalem and was martyred in A.D. 62 when he refused to renounce his faith in Christ (Antiquities of the Jews, Book 20, chapter 9, sec. 1).

Is There Any Hope For The World?

God Still Cares for the World

God still loves us in spite of our sin. He has made a way to save us from sin, Satan, and eternal death. God still rules the universe and will bring the earth back into obedience again.

The Son of God Took Our Punishment

Every person on earth has sinned and has been sentenced to die. We had no way to save ourselves. God loved us so much that He sent His own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to take our punishment.

Nearly 2,000 years ago Jesus came to earth and was supernaturally born of a virgin in the land of Palestine. He taught men the truth about God and His love. He did nothing wrong in His whole life, but He died like a criminal, nailed to a cross. He died in our place for our sins. God showed the world that Jesus was His Son by bringing Him back to life after three days. Forty days later Jesus went back bodily to heaven. Friends of Jesus who saw Him after His resurrection and watched Him go up to heaven have told us about it in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.)

Accepting Jesus Makes Us God's Children

Since Jesus has taken our punishment, those who accept Him as their Savior are freed from the power of Satan. When we turn away from our sins, God makes us His children and gives us His life. God urges us to believe in His Son and be saved from sin, but He will not force us to do it.

For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
(Bible, Romans 5:17)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(Bible, John 3:16)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Bible, Romans 6:23)

Becoming a Child of God

We have learned that the world was formed by Someone and that someone is God.

God made a perfect world, but sin entered the world and tarnished it. Sin is the reason for the pain and suffering existing in the world today.

God gives each of us a choice. We can choose to follow Him and to become His children or we can choose to reject Him and continue in our sin. God loves us very much and has provided a way for us to be free from sin through his son, Jesus Christ.

Today is a big day for you. It is a day of decision. Would you like to accept Jesus Christ as the Ruler of your life today? You can invite Him into your heart right now, right where you are. Just say this simple prayer:

God, thank you for loving me and for sending your Son to die for me and my sins. Please come into my life and be my Savior, Ruler, and Friend. Reveal yourself to me and help me to become the person you want me to be.
